PM Gati Shakti Project

PM Gati Shakti Project  India in the 21st century is creating some of the best modern infrastructure, including better roads, rail networks, and airports. These infrastructure projects not only improve connectivity but also transform the lives of people in the region. One such transformative project is the PM Gati Shakti National Logistics Master Plan, launched by Prime Minister Modi in 2021. This plan aims to enhance connectivity across India, including the redevelopment of ports and the development of national highways to fulfill the government’s multimodal connectivity goals.

PM Gati Shakti

The PM Gati Shakti plan involves connecting 55 ports across India and includes several projects to improve connectivity, such as the construction of 2780 km of expressways. With a substantial investment of INR 61,000 crore, the plan aims to build six-lane and four-lane greenfield expressways and highways. Among these projects is the Greenfield Raipur Visakhapatnam Economic Corridor, which will connect North and South India, playing a crucial role in the country’s growth.

Developments

To further boost connectivity, the Visakhapatnam Metro project is underway. The Central Government has asked the Andhra Pradesh State Government to update the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the metro rail project. The CMP is crucial for evaluating and approving transport projects like metro rail and feeder networks. The Visakhapatnam Metro, estimated at INR 14,300 crore, aims to connect key parts of the city and extend to Bhogapuram.

The project includes a 60 km tram corridor connecting areas like Anakapalli, Pendurthi, and Beach Road. The CMP, initially created in 2018, is being updated to support Visakhapatnam’s economic growth with a safe, sustainable, and low-carbon urban transport plan. The Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC) was appointed as the advisor to create the CMP, which involved surveys and data collection between 2016 and 2017.
